CAPER vs OPHRDC Inclusion Criteria

CAPER (Canadian Post-MD Education Registry) and OPHRDC use the same November 1 census date for their annual reports, but there are differences in how that is applied.

CAPER: All residents and fellows who are in active training on the November 1 census day are counted PLUS all trainees who are registered in a training position on November 1, but are absent on that day due to illness or a leave of absence for six months or less.

OPHRDC: Only those residents and fellow who are in active training on November 1 are included. Trainees on any kind of leave on November 1 are excluded from the count; regardless of the duration of that leave.

As an example; a trainee on leave from October 1 to December 31 is not counted by OPHRDC in the Point Census reports.
